  • This matriarch was ruling the roost at an elephant sanctuary in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Whether orphaned at youth, injured by poachers, or illed from anthrax, the survivors are brought here to flourish in this protected and well managed area. The amber tinted early morning sun mixed with the rich red soil to create a strange and beautiful quality of light. This matron was curious of my wide angle lens, and leaned in to investigate; her trunk fondled my ear as the shutter clicked.
